JOEY BLUNK
BIOGRAPHY
As a performer and educator, Joey has found success on stage and in the classroom, having performed with groups from pop to classical including Bigfoot Meter, Matthew Curry and the Fury, Oro Solido, La Candela, and Laura Glyda.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Joey began playing trumpet in fifth grade. By the end of his high school career, it was clear music would be a centerpiece for the remainder of his life.
Joey received his bachelors degree in music education from Illinois State University in 2014, graduating with highest honors. After graduation, he taught middle school band for four years while maintaining an active gigging schedule.
In 2018, Joey moved to Colorado to pursue a masters degree in jazz performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado in Boulder where he studied with Brad Goode. Joey's other trumpet instructors include Amy Gilreath, Tom Tallman, and Bonnie Brown.
With his second degree completed, Joey continues to teach, perform, and compose-maintaining a private lesson studio and performing throughout the Denver area.
